Living Wage Week – Building a Fairer Society

Scotland’s focus on ensuring that every penny spent on procurement goes to support responsible firms which champion fair working practices means demonstrating that our workforce earns a decent wage is becoming increasingly important for contractors.
The real Living Wage is a voluntary initiative backed by over 2,000 employers in Scotland which looks to provide workers with a decent wage which covers every day needs. The rate is currently £9.50 per hour and it is calculated independently every year in November.
This November, to mark Living Wage Week, we are hosting an online event with Living Wage Scotland to learn more about the process and potential benefits of registering as an official Living Wage employer.
We will hear first-hand from contractors about their journey to accreditation and how being recognised as official Living Wage employers has helped their business in various ways from improving staff recruitment and retention to bidding for public contracts.
Transport Scotland’s procurement team will also give us an insight into how public sector agencies are putting the Living Wage and the Fair Work First agenda at the heart of the public procurement process.
Speakers will include representatives from Morrison Construction, Transport Scotland and Living Wage Scotland.
