CECA Scotland backs Doddie’s fightback

CECA Scotland is backing Doddie’s fightback by pledging support for My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, set up by rugby legend Doddie Weir.

Doddie, a former British and Irish lion, earned 61 caps for Scotland during his successful rugby career but he is now facing his biggest challenge yet.

Last June, Doddie, aged 47, revealed he is suffering from Motor Neurone Disease. From that day, he has been determined to do whatever he can to help fellow MND sufferers and to help fund research to find a cure for this devastating condition.

MND is a rapidly progressing terminal illness which stops signals from the brain reaching the muscles. You can find out more about the condition at www.mndscotland.org.uk/what-is-mnd.  There is currently no cure.

“It is frustrating that there has been so little progress over the last two decades. I want to push the need for research into MND further up the agenda. We may be too late in finding something that can help me, but I am committed to doing everything I can to help find a cure”.                  Doddie Weir

My Name’5 Doddie Foundation was launched in November 2017 with a mission to raise funds to aid research into the causes of Motor Neurone Disease and investigate potential cures and to make grants to individuals suffering from MND to enable them to live as fulfilled a life as possible, for example through providing help with mobility and transport needs, care and respite or with basic living requirements.

With your support, you will help Doddie make a difference to the lives of those coping and battling with Motor Neurone Disease and help support research to find a cure.

CECA Scotland will be supporting My Name’5 Doddie Foundation by holding a fundraiser at our Annual Dinner on Thursday 22 February, which will include a Silent Auction giving attendees the chance to win a piece of Scotland’s rugby history.  Up for grabs will be a rugby ball signed by members of the victorious 1990 Grand Slam Team (Scotland versus England) from Saturday 17th March 1990 at Murrayfield.  An original ticket from the match is also included.  If you are attending the CECA Scotland dinner, you can place a bid on the night.

If you are not attending the CECA Scotland Dinner but want to support Doddie’s foundation, you can donate online at justgiving.com/myname5-doddiefoundation.
