Apprentice SHAD Success

Apprentice SHAD Success

During Scottish Apprenticeship Week,  CECA Scotland was delighted to support the delivery of a Health and Safety Awareness Day (SHAD) for apprentices at West Lothian College.

Attended by almost one hundred and fifty apprentices, from trades including joinery, civil engineering and electrical, the event was delivered by the Working Well Together team,  in partnership with                                                                West Lothian College.

The SHAD kicked off with introductions from West Lothian College Principal, Jackie Galbraith and Sarah Shore, Head of Operations – HSE Construction Division, Yorkshire, North East and Scotland.

Following a interesting presentation from Healthy Working Lives, five interactive workshops were run on scaffolding, plant and people separation, construction dust, asbestos and electrical safety.

Feedback from apprentices and employers attending was extremely positive.

There is no doubt that initiatives to reach out to young people starting out in the industry and vital in embedding a health and safety culture.

We look forward to continuing to work with the WWT team to deliver more events like this in the future.
