Training and Development Forum
July 21 8:30 am - 12:30 pm
The lack of skilled operatives in the sector continues to be the biggest threat to the sustainability of the sector, both from an aging workforce and the lack of those wishing to enter the industry combined with a significant reduction in European labour. Whilst there have been several initiatives aimed at attracting young people into the industry, they have not had the effect that industry or Government had anticipated. There requires to be a much more focused and cohesive approach, from both the sector and Government, to address the issue of providing a long term sustainable skilled workforce. To that end, the Board of CECA Scotland has made it a priority of CECA Scotland to facilitate and assist an increase in new entrants – at all levels – into the sector.
CECA met with Colleges Scotland to identify a route by which employers can tap into the existing resource of “work ready” young people at College who have completed NPA’s in Construction. This will be developed further with input from members. A meeting of the CECA Training & Development Forum will take place at St. Johnstone FC McDiarmid Park, Perth on 21st July 0830-1230 where further details will be shared.
