The future of client-led R&D: What this means for CECA Scotland members
January 26, 2022 11:00 am - 11:45 am
FreeCECA Scotland has teamed up with Forrest Brown to host a 45 minute webinar on The future of Client Led R&D, taking place on the 26th January 2022, 11-11:45am.
Webinar background
Recently, HMRC has argued that R&D paid for by a client is, in effect, subsidised. Subsidised R&D expenditure is not eligible for SME R&D tax relief.
The result is that civil engineering firms are being denied potential six-figure R&D tax credit benefits. But all is not lost: ForrestBrown has challenged HMRC in court on behalf of clients and won.
But this issue is not settled. HMRC can – and likely will – continue challenging businesses on this front. So, what next for CECA Scotland members?
To help unpick the issue and provide up-to-date guidance, ForrestBrown is hosting a roundtable on the future of subsidised R&D. This webinar, aimed at MDs, FDs and CEOs, will feature ForrestBrown’s technical director Jenny Tragner CA ATT who is joined by ForrestBrown’s engineering sector specialist Gareth Randle and CECA Scotland’s Chief Executive Grahame Barn.
The round table will cover:
- Why civil engineering companies undertaking customer-led R&D are at risk.
- How to manage direct challenges from HMRC on customer-led R&D.
- How R&D tax relief remains a valuable form of funding when approached correctly.
