Celebrating Foundation Apprenticeships

We were delighted to be invited along to the Construction Learning Centre at Brechin High for a Ministerial visit by Jamie Hepburn MSP, Scottish Government Minister for Employment and Training and to catch up with pupils working on Foundation Apprenticeships in Civil Engineering.

The Foundation Apprenticeships are delivered on site by Dundee and Angus College. 5th year pupils on the course were on hand to share their experiences with the Minister.

CECA Scotland has been actively involved in supporting this initiative from day one and we’ve been working closely with the college to secure work experience placements for the second year of the programme.

The Construction Learning Centre opened in October 2017 and is an integral part of Brechin High’s impressive state of the art newbuild campus.

As well as supporting Foundation Apprentices in Civil Engineering, the centre is also being used for a new Design & Build qualification, introducing 3rd year pupils to construction and the built environment through project based learning; to support Roof Tiling Modern Apprentices with Forster Skills Academy and as a hub for meetings, training and experience placements during the school holidays.

Grahame Barn, Chief Executive of CECA Scotland said:

“The Construction Learning Centre is a huge asset for the school and the local construction and civil engineering community; we are proud to have played a role in supporting this fantastic facility.”
